Subject:BESM 3rd Edition (First Impressions)

Hello Everyone,

Once I'm finished digesting the entire book I'll post a full review of this book. So far the book looks good, the layout is nice, a lot of art has been recycled from previous editions but I guess that's what you have to expect from a project like this. There's some good text on campaign design, and more than a few inside jokes and references for the nerd culture to enjoy scattered within.

More later . . .

Where: Hillhurst Sunnyside Community Centre
Tickets: $2 (FREE if you purchase a dance ticket!)

The 404s Improv Comedy Group is pleased to announce its latest venture - a public show in the heart of Calgary! Join us for an afternoon show of improv comedy the likes of which you've never seen... An afternoon of hilarity, audience participation, and with any luck, some partial nudity!

The 404s are putting their show on in cooperation with the Calgary Science-Fiction and Fantasy Society (CSFFS), who are holding the "Ship of Fools" dance after the performance. So, when you come for The 404s, stay for the main event - or if you've already got your dance ticket, come a little early for some great improv comedy theatre!

The theme for this performance is pretty cool: They're doing sci-fi, fantasy, and comics, on the occasion of the SF&F themed dance that comes after the show. So, expect the games and the audience suggestions to come along those lines... If you like making fun of Kirk, Frodo or Batman, this show is for you.

Hope to see you there!

The First Annual Calgary Zombie Walk!

Saturday, October 15th - starts at 3pm from Olympic Plaza and/or 4pm from the park at 17th Ave and 8th St.

The walk will start in two stages, as follows:

1. All "super zombies" are invited to gather at Olympic Plaza no later than 3pm. From Olympic Plaza the horde will head down Stephen Avenue to 8th Street SW, then head south to 17th Ave where we will meet:

2. The lazy zombies. A second group of zombies will gather at the above mentioned park at or around 4pm. Remember - zombies tend to move slowly and occasionally have problems with limbs falling off, body stiffness and possibly police officers. And, despite being animated corpses in search of human brains, pedestrian zombies must obey traffic signals. If you do not see any of your brethren exactly at 5pm, be patient. Mill about and look scary.

Once all zombie factions have massed at the park it will be time to head onward to the Union Cemetery on McLeod Trail & 25th Ave. For reference, the walk will proceed along 17th Ave to McLeod Trail should any zombie stragglers be left behind and/or spontaneous zombies wish to join the braaiiins procession.

Once at the cemetery, please be on good zombie behaviour - respect your brethren.

We will linger a short while in the cemetery before moving onwards to nearby Reader Rock Gardens for some games, brains, fun, prizes, brains and a pinata or two.

Yes, you do have to dress like a zombie. Those who do not do so are welcome, but risk having their brains eaten by confused zombies. You have to admit - they're not all that smart, but they know a good living brain when they smell it.

Potentially useful things to keep in mind:

Causes of zombie-ness:

As everyone knows - or should know - zombies are usually attributable to one or more of the following:

1. voodoo
2. science gone astray - chemical or biological accidents, experiments, viruses and the like
3. the apocalypse

Of course, there are many more possibilties. Be creative. Corpses in all stages of decay are encouraged.

For the low-budget zombie:

1. Oatmeal and liquid latex works wonders.
2. Food colouring and corn syrup makes convincing blood, but sticky. However, also tasty.
3. Bloody entrails can be easily made by stuffing pantyhose with old sweatsocks, then soaking the whole thing in a bowl of fake blood.
4. Value Village - but I'm sure it's hardly necessary to mention that. I’ve heard that burying your clothes in the backyard for a week or two can help them look (and smell) extra zombie filthy.

Finally: zombies are only really effective when travelling together in large groups. Bring your friends, foes, family and other loved ones.

Nothing says you love someone quite like caking yourself in make-up, limping down the street together and eating them in the park!

Pass this info on to anyone who might be interested - it has a bit of a 'viral' feel to it, but see zombie cause number 2. It all makes perfect sense.

How's that for a slice of fried gold?

Has anyone picked up "Mage: the Awakening" yet?

If so please post a review. I want to know if I should bother buying it or just keep converting M;tA to the new rules.

*Waves* First, I must admit that as of yet, I'm not a tabletop gamer. I roleplay a fair bit, and have loosely roleplayed a lot of the White Wolf series over the net... but I've never had an actual White Wolf campaign.

Now, introducing myself ^^

You get no real name yet. *Shy* Just Lithy. I'm female, I love the white wolf series (only old, for what is Vampire without the Malks?), BESM looks interesting, and I wouldn't mind trying DnD if someone has the patience to teach me. I online game, too, WoW and EQ2 right now. I've also played EQ1, UO, DAoC, and a short trial of Horizons, Lineage 2, and Shadowbane, though those didn't catch my interest. I ALSO console game and I -used- to love the FF series, until CC and Final Fantasy 10-2 and 11 came out. Though now I love this Arc the Lad game I found.

That's all my gaming interests I think. Anything else you'd like to know, feel free to ask ^^

Well here's hoping this community takes off.

I know there's lots of table top gamers around Calgary, and I hope you guys join up and find this community usefull. Feel free to invite anyone! Any gamer is welcome, so long as they can be civil.

Right now I'm looking for players, so if you're over 18 and are interested for some White Wolf or DnD action give me a buzz. Alternatively if you have a group already and are looking for a player or storyteller, let me know.

Also, (and this is off topic) if you're interested in making some electronic music I have an arsenal of instruments, software, and devices I'd be willing to share with another wannabe visionary musician.
